what's a zbq?
i started zero t-shirts in 1993 with an old heat press and several boxes of old comics and magazines to purge for inspiration. in those days i was doing strictly heat transfers, mostly just for fun, so i was able to play around with hundreds of different images. in 1998 i launched the first zero web site, zero23.com (now defunct), which featured 80 pretty scrappy images available on baseball shirts and white t-shirts. before long i was receiving art submissions from all over the internet from some pretty incredible artists and started to post many of these on the site as shirt designs. in 1997 i had started to finally mess around with screenprinting, buying gear and doing experiments. around this time i also became aware of zero skateboards so i started thinking of a way to change the company's name without altering it too much. on february 2nd 2002 i launched a new site- this one, zeroboutique.com, so i thought that zeroboutique worked as a natural progression. except that it was a little long, so i shortened it to zbq. in the years since i had started doing shirts in my room i had acquired a 4 color printing station and a bunch of other gear and inks and had moved into a larger commercial space. the more screenprinting i did, the more i enjoyed the art and process of shirt printing and i have never stopped trying to learn & develop my skills ever since. these shirts are hand screened with love and perseverance in halifax, nova scotia. keep fighting & dreaming. top-jason
